Smith Anderson was ranked in 13 practice areas in the 2025 Chambers USA guide, with more than half earning the highest possible rating of Band 1. The firm continues to lead all North Carolina-based law firms in the number of Corporate/M&A lawyers recognized.
In the Chambers High Net Worth Guide, Smith Anderson earned the sole Band 1 ranking in North Carolina for Private Wealth Law. Three of our Trusts and Estates attorneys were also individually ranked in the guide.

Smith Anderson is one of only eight law firms in the world to be recognized in the Agribusiness chapter of the Chambers Global 2025 guide. Additionally, our firm has two of only five lawyers individually ranked in the chapter worldwide.

Smith Anderson received national recognition from LMG Life Sciences in the publication’s 2024 rankings, maintaining our position in the Licensing & Collaboration category for the third consecutive year. We remain the only law firm based in North Carolina to achieve this prestigious national acknowledgment. Smith Anderson was recognized as one of the nation's top law firms for client service excellence in the 2020 BTI Client Service A-Team guide, the only law firm ranking based solely on direct, unprompted feedback from corporate counsel.
- BTI Consulting Group
Smith Anderson earned recognition from BTI Consulting Group in multiple national rankings based entirely on client feedback. The firm was named one of 37 midsize law firms “punching above their weight” for “bring[ing] the same level of confidence and reliability as the big firms,” ranked among just 29 “Highly Recommended” firms in the country in BTI Most Recommended Law Firms 2025, and recognized as one of the most innovative law firms in the world in BTI Law Firm Innovation Icons 2025.

The 2025 edition of Best Law Firms® has recognized Smith Anderson as a leading firm in a total of 48 practice areas, including 41 Metropolitan Tier 1 ratings, the highest rating available in a specific geographic region, and two National ratings.

Law360 has recognized Smith Anderson as a 2024 North Carolina Regional Powerhouse for its leading role in high-profile mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and its success in handling impactful litigation. Additionally, Smith Anderson landed on the Law360 400 list of the largest law firms in the U.S. at number 287, measured by domestic attorney headcount as of Dec. 31, 2024.

For the sixth consecutive year, Smith Anderson was named the 2025 "North Carolina Firm of the Year" and Benchmark Litigation, “the definitive guide to America’s leading litigation firms and lawyers,” recognized 12 of our attorneys as North Carolina “Litigation Stars” in its 2025 edition. Smith Anderson was also awarded a “Highly Recommended” ranking for North Carolina, the highest possible rating.

IFLR1000: The Guide to the World’s Leading Financial and Corporate Law Firms has again ranked Smith Anderson’s M&A and Finance practices in the North Carolina chapter of its 2024 edition.
Additionally, five lawyers were ranked as Highly Regarded Practitioners and another received national recognition as a Notable Practitioner.
