Summer Program & Student Recruiting
Each summer, Smith Anderson looks forward to welcoming summer associates to experience first-hand the people and the work environment that sets us apart from other law firms. Our summer program is designed to provide meaningful professional development by offering practical experience through challenging work assignments, complemented by engaging and fun opportunities to connect with our attorneys and our community, whether in the office or at out-of-office events.
Summer associates are partnered with a dedicated Summer Advisor and supported by other levels of mentorship to ensure each associate receives sound guidance and exposure to different areas of law at our firm. Along with our Recruiting team, a Work Assignment Coordinator helps manage workflow and align assigned projects with each summer associate’s interests, offering a variety of work assignments across the firm’s many practice areas. Our Opportunities to Observe Coordinator ensures summer associate participation in key learning experiences to observe depositions, trials, closings, client meetings, negotiations and other real-world matters.
We make the extra effort to get to know our summer associates personally. Throughout the summer, our lawyers coordinate various “informal” meetups and activities, including lunches, dinners, cultural outings, sporting events, field trips and impromptu social gatherings, all with the intention to get to know one another beyond the office.
If you are interested in applying for a summer associate position and unable to meet us at a law school or event, please visit our current openings.

Student Recruiting
At Smith Anderson, our summer program hiring is guided by a Recruiting Committee that consists of partners, associates and administrators. For students, this means that each candidate meets attorneys from different levels and gains a true sense of our people, our values and our culture.

Throughout the year, students will find Smith Anderson representatives on campus at:
