Overview

Erik Mazzone is Smith Anderson’s Chief Innovation Officer, guiding the firm’s strategic efforts to advance innovation and elevate the client experience through the intelligent application of technology and knowledge systems. In this role, he oversees the Information Technology, Research Services, Knowledge Management, Data Analytics and Litigation Technology teams, streamlining processes and improving internal workflows. Erik works closely with Smith Anderson leadership, focusing on strengthening operational performance and aligning firmwide initiatives with long-term vision. 

With more than 20 years of experience in legal technology and practice management, Erik has spent his career helping lawyers and law firms navigate the evolving intersection of law practice and technological change. His background includes extensive advisory experience and leadership of multidisciplinary teams responsible for technology strategy, operations and member or client engagement.

Passionate about technology, Erik has also taught various legal technology and law practice management courses as an adjunct professor at the law schools of University of North Carolina and North Carolina Central University, and has been recognized for his contributions to legal innovation and thought leadership.

Outside of work, Erik enjoys traveling, live music and exploring new restaurants – and often tries to combine the three in places like Paris, Los Angeles and New Orleans. At home in Raleigh, he enjoys spending time with his wife and friends, reading, catching a movie or opening the occasional bottle of wine.
