Step Up to the Plate: Bo Bobbitt Provides Insight on MACRA’s New Value-Based Health Care Payment Landscape

Internal Medicine News

In the article titled “Mastering MACRA: How to thrive under new payment models,” Internal Medicine News reporter Alicia Gallegos interviewed health care attorney Bo Bobbitt, who is witnessing firsthand the tools leading to success in the new value-based health care payment landscape. The article discusses the key payment provisions for well-performing and poorly performing physicians under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA).

“Rule No. 1: Step up to the plate,” Bo said. “MACRA changes everything. This is massive. Indecision will not stop your placement in the value-based payment system. Why not control your destiny to achieve your professional and financial goals?”

Bo added that joining an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) sooner, rather than later, makes sense on many levels.

“Accountable care organizations seem to be an ideal vehicle to increase your value contribution and your reimbursement,” he said. “The law gives a 5% bump if you are in a qualifying ACO. There’s work involved and there’s infrastructure cost, but you can get into the plus side under MACRA and avoid the negative side, and you’re still open to the upside of the rewards for high performance.”
