Construction Lawyers Society of America Names Andrew Atkins and Pete Marino Fellows


The Construction Lawyers Society of America has designated Smith Anderson attorneys Andrew Atkins and Pete Marino as Fellows of the invitation-only, international honorary association composed of preeminent lawyers specializing in construction law and related fields and who have outstanding ethical reputations. 

The CLSA is dedicated to promoting superior advocacy and ethical standards in construction law and fostering a scholarly and advanced exchange of ideas in all practices related to the specialty. Attorneys invited into the Fellowship have a proven record of excellence and accomplishment in construction law at both the trial and appellate levels. Lawyers may be in any discipline in the construction law arena, including contract specialization, negotiations, litigation, arbitration, appellate and/or surety law.

Andrew co-chairs the Real Estate Litigation practice at Smith Anderson and is a seasoned construction attorney with significant experience in litigation and contracting. Pete co-leads Smith Anderson’s Real Estate Development group and chairs its Construction practice.

Andrew regularly represents owners, contractors and developers in multi-party disputes involving public and private commercial projects. He is also regularly involved in other commercial, contract and business-related disputes. Andrew has represented clients in some of the largest construction disputes in North Carolina including multi-million-dollar claims related to the construction of state-owned psychiatric hospitals, a light rail system and public highways.

Pete has been integrally involved as lead counsel in some of the most significant projects in the state and region, including a LEED-certified World Headquarters project for a leading Fortune 500 company, and North Carolina's first Turnpike and Light Rail project. His practice includes all facets of construction and development law arising out of public and private projects, and he has advised on numerous solar and other LEED-certified and sustainable projects.
