Overview
Catherine Hill is a member of Smith Anderson’s Land Use & Zoning and Real Estate Litigation practice groups. An accomplished land use and zoning attorney, Catherine represents local governments, private developers and businesses throughout North Carolina. Her practice is informed by over a decade of public sector experience working as a Senior Associate City Attorney for Raleigh and Assistant City Attorney for Asheville, and representing land use boards, including planning boards, boards of adjustment and historic preservation commissions. After leaving the public sector, Catherine practiced at a national law firm before joining Smith Anderson.
Catherine has experience in all aspects of land use law and development in North Carolina, including development permitting, quasi-judicial land use decisions, the North Carolina Building Code and litigation. Catherine’s practice includes guiding clients through development approvals, including subdivision and site plan processes, and quasi-judicial land use decisions, such as variances, special use permits and certificates of appropriateness. She also represents clients in land use and zoning litigation.
Outside of the office, Catherine enjoys spending time with her family and cheering on the Wolfpack.
