Overview

Benjamin Spencer is a member of Smith Anderson’s Business Litigation practice group, where he supports clients in navigating complex business disputes. Prior to joining the firm, Ben served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Terrence W. Boyle of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, where he gained valuable exposure to federal trial and motion practice.

During law school, he worked with attorneys at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health on regulatory matters and legislative proposals, supporting research and analysis on issues at the intersection of law, science and policy. He also contributed to legal scholarship as an author and editor for multiple academic publications and was recognized for his skill in transactional drafting. This combination of judicial, regulatory and academic experience has prepared him to provide practical insight to clients and colleagues.

Outside the office, Ben enjoys fiction writing and has a keen interest in the history of early aviation and nautical exploration. He always welcomes book recommendations.
