Overview
After nearly 15 years working in-house counsel roles at a global medical technology company, a major international professional membership organization and a healthcare consulting firm, Andrea Short has returned to Smith Anderson, where she began her legal career following a clerkship with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. She now advises companies on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters with a focus on data privacy and security and health care.
A seasoned commercial generalist, Andrea has led legal teams and advised executives on privacy, healthcare compliance, commercial contracts, antitrust compliance and FDA advertising regulations. She has served on cross-functional leadership committees, contributed to global privacy initiatives and received multiple legal performance awards. She is known for her ability to simplify complex issues, understand business objectives and work collaboratively with commercial leadership to deliver practical solutions that mitigate legal and business risk.
Andrea is certified as an Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E), the global standard for privacy professionals, and helps clients with privacy program and policy development, compliance, contract matters and data breach response.
Originally from Pittsburgh, Andrea now lives in Cary with her husband, three children and two beloved pets. Outside of work, she enjoys running, cheering on the Carolina Hurricanes and Duke basketball and staying active with her family.
