Triangle Business Journal Names Kim Swintosky a 2026 Women in Business Award Winner
Kim Swintosky has been named a winner of Triangle Business Journal’s 2026 Women in Business Awards in the Community Supporter category, recognizing her professional leadership and long-standing commitment to serving nonprofits that support children, families and vulnerable individuals across the Triangle. Kim and the other honorees were recognized at an awards event on March 26 at the Angus Barn Pavilion.
A partner at the Triangle’s largest law firm, Smith Anderson, Kim advises business owners, closely held companies and high-net-worth individuals on complex tax, succession and wealth transfer matters. She guides clients through sophisticated planning and major transactions, often at moments carrying both financial and personal significance. Kim co-leads the firm’s Private Client practice, which includes Tax, Closely-Held and Family-Owned Businesses, and Trusts and Estates practices, coordinating strategy, mentoring attorneys and helping deliver practical, thoughtful counsel.
Kim’s community impact is rooted in decades of service. She has supported Boys & Girls Clubs of Wake County for more than 25 years as a fundraising volunteer and for more than 16 years as a board member, serving in leadership roles including board chair, chair-elect, treasurer and secretary. She currently serves on several key committees and has helped guide the organization through leadership transition and long-term planning.
Kim has also played a significant role in the Smith Anderson Community Fund, the firm’s charitable giving program administered by the Triangle Community Foundation. As a founding advisory committee member and now co-chair, she has helped guide the fund’s mission, governance and grantmaking for 20 years. In 2025, she co-led the fund’s 20th anniversary campaign, which raised more than $120,000, the most raised in a single year, and helped bring total distributions to nearly $750,000 over two decades. Under her leadership, the fund has supported more than 70 nonprofit organizations across the Triangle.
Her leadership and service have also included work with the North Carolina Board of Chiropractic Examiners, where she served two full terms as a board member and treasurer, contributing financial oversight and governance in a role focused on protecting the public. Kim’s professional and civic leadership also includes service with the UNC School of Law’s J. Nelson Young Tax Institute and Smith Anderson’s core business teams.
Throughout her career, Kim has been recognized by leading legal ranking publications such as Chambers and Partners, The Best Lawyers in America, Business North Carolina’s Legal Elite and North Carolina Super Lawyers, among others. Her selection as a 2026 Women in Business Award winner reflects both her professional accomplishments and her sustained commitment to the Triangle community.
