For the second year in a row, North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has named Smith Anderson attorney Kerry Shad to its Employment Law Power List.

Kerry advises companies of all sizes on a wide variety of employment law issues across a range of industries, including healthcare (insurers and hospitals), pharmaceutical and CRO, technology, biotech, ag tech, retail, hospitality and manufacturing. Since joining Smith Anderson, Kerry has served as counsel in high impact litigation with statewide and national implications, routinely defending employers in federal and state courts against lawsuits involving alleged discrimination, harassment and retaliation, and wage and hour violations.

Not only a powerful litigator called on to solve companies’ most pressing problems, Kerry is also a trusted, collegial and well-respected lawyer in local, state and national legal communities. She is an elected member of Smith Anderson’s Management Committee and co-chair of its Diversity & Inclusion Committee, spearheading the firm’s efforts that have led to the firm achieving Midsize Mansfield Certified Plus status by increasing the representation of diverse lawyers in firm leadership.

Kerry said that she views her clients’ problems as puzzles to be solved in ways that are efficient, principled and aligned with clients’ values and philosophies. She appreciates and is grateful for the relationships she has developed over many years with clients and her Smith Anderson friends and colleagues.

"Employment law is all about people - at their best and at their worst - and it is very important to maintain respect for everyone involved in workplace disputes as you work toward a solution whether through negotiation or litigation," Kerry said. "Relationships with my clients have provided interesting and challenging work shoulder-to-shoulder with smart people trying to do the right thing, and relationships with my colleagues at Smith Anderson have provided many enduring friendships and opportunities to develop as a leader.”
