United Way of Greater Triangle Announces Byron Kirkland as its New Board Leader

Smith Anderson Managing Partner Byron Kirkland has been named chair of the United Way of the Greater Triangle’s board of directors.

The United Way is a worldwide organization of nearly 1,800 community-based United Ways in 41 countries and territories. Each is independent, separately incorporated and governed by local volunteers. United Way brings communities together to focus on the most important needs in the community, build partnerships, forge consensus and leverage resources to make a measurable difference.

The United Way of the Greater Triangle operates under three pillars:

  • Cradle to Career: Investing in non-profits that guide our children through early learning programs all the way to workforce development.
  • Healthy Families: Providing families with access to much-needed housing, nutrition, health and safety services.
  • Equity in Leadership: Empowering communities for success and amplifying the voices of under-represented nonprofit leaders.

“I am honored to lead a board that oversees an organization comprised of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly and passionately to eradicate poverty and increase social mobility through the power of partnerships,” Byron said.

Byron practices corporate and securities law and has extensive experience advising venture capital and private equity funds and domestic and international mergers and acquisitions. He represents emerging and established companies, both privately and publicly held, across diverse industry sectors.
