Caryn Coppedge McNeill has been selected as an honoree for North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s 2017 North Carolina Leaders in the Law awards.

The Leaders in the Law awards honor North Carolina legal professionals who have gone above and beyond in their profession and their community. These honorees represent the most influential individuals within our state’s legal community.

According to North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, honorees are selected by a panel of independent legal professional leaders and peers based on professional accomplishment, personal accomplishment and community involvement.

In June 2017, Caryn was named the 123rd President of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA). Caryn has an extensive record of service within the NCBA since joining early in her practice. She chaired the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) in 1999-2000 and is a former division director and American Bar Association (ABA) YLD District 9 representative. She served on the NCBA Board of Governors in 2001-02, is a former member of the Tax Section council, and previously chaired the Lawyer Effectiveness & Quality of Life Committee and the Pro Bono Strategic Planning Task Force.

Caryn has practiced her entire career at Smith Anderson, joining the firm in 1991 after receiving her law degree from the Duke University School of Law. She was named Partner in 1999 and soon after was elected to serve on the firm’s policy and planning committee, a position she held until 2006. She now leads the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation Practice Group, which has consistently received the highest ranking from U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” since 2010. A significant part of her practice is devoted to counseling and negotiating on behalf of clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions.
