Smith Anderson Partner Bill Nelson Elected Fellow of American College of Tax Counsel
ACTC is a professional association of tax attorneys formed in 1981. Membership is limited to a maximum of 700 tax attorneys across the United States. With his election, Bill becomes the 15th ACTC Fellow in North Carolina.
Membership in the College is an honor reserved for those at the top of their chosen profession. The College’s members, called “Fellows,” are tax lawyers working in private law firms and in-house legal departments, teaching tax in law schools, or working in federal or state revenue agencies.
Bill’s practice areas include tax planning for corporate acquisitions, tax-free reorganizations, and divestitures, forming and advising joint ventures and private equity funds, providing tax and business law advice to limited partnerships and limited liability companies, and representing domestic and foreign taxpayers on U.S. tax implications of international transactions. He also represents taxpayers before federal, state and local tax authorities in tax controversies. He has written and spoken on a variety of federal and state tax topics and has been active in a number of state tax and business law legislative reform efforts.
