Smith Anderson AgTech Partner Jason Brege Named a 2018 North Carolina Leaders in the Law Honoree

Jason Brege, co-leader of Smith Anderson’s AgTech practice group, has been selected as an honoree for North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s 2018 North Carolina Leaders in the Law awards.

According to North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, the Leaders in the Law awards honor North Carolina legal professionals who have gone above and beyond in their profession and their community. These honorees represent the most influential individuals within our state’s legal community.

Honorees are selected by a panel of independent legal professional leaders and peers based on professional accomplishment, personal accomplishment and community involvement.

Since joining Smith Anderson in 2007, Jason has counseled clients regarding billions of dollars in transactions in the global AgTech, pharma, software and technology fields. He works with a number of growth and mature companies to bring their products to market.

Jason has substantial legal experience with complex technology transactions, including a $1.6 billion deal in 2016 for Durham-based Precision BioSciences. Jason helped helped lead the Smith Anderson legal team in advising Precision with respect to a worldwide immuno-oncology partnership to develop allogeneic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapies. This groundbreaking transaction was awarded the prestigious 2016 Life Science Sector Deals of Distinction™ award by the Licensing Executives Society.

Jason graduated magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a B.A. in Physics and Mathematics. Jason has been named a North Carolina Super Lawyers “Rising Star” for the last three years.

Outside of his legal practice, Jason is active in his church in Southeast Raleigh and serves as Board Chairman of Justice Matters, Inc., a non-profit that provides legal services to survivors of human trafficking and other traumas. The non-profit provides restorative and preventive legal services to help survivors and prevent situations where trafficking is likely to occur.

The 2018 North Carolina Leaders in the Law awards ceremony will take place September 20th in Greensboro, N.C.
