Robert Rehm Serves as a Panelist at LegalTech New York 2015
Raleigh, N.C. – Robert Rehm, a partner in Smith Anderson’s Intellectual Property practice group, participated in a panel discussion at LegalTech® New York 2015, a conference and trade show held on February 3-5 in New York, NY. The annual event provides law firms and legal departments with hands-on practical information about technological innovations for improving law practice management.
The panel's discussion topic, "SaaS Vendors and Users – Peaceful Co-existence in the Cloud," primarily focused on significant issues faced by vendors and users of cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) applications as they attempt to negotiate and finalize agreements governing provision and use of such applications that strike a commercially-reasonable balance between those parties’ oftentimes disparate business interests. These issues include (1) data accessibility and security; (2) product- and service-related warranties; (3) source code escrow and SaaS business continuity, disaster recovery, and transition services; (4) service reliability and availability; (5) involvement of third parties; (6) liability limitations; (7) ownership of intellectual property; and (8) revenue recognition.
