Attorney Jim Wrenn Joins Smith Anderson, Bringing Decades of Business and Health Care Experience

Jim Wrenn, an accomplished business attorney and who serves as general counsel for numerous health care providers, governmental entities, businesses and non-profit organizations, has joined Smith Anderson as a partner.

Jim has significant health care experience, representing long-term care facilities, hospitals and other health care providers. He provides counsel on issues related to corporate governance, health care regulations, human resources, environmental compliance, contracting (including meeting state and federal contracting requirements), taxation, economic development, litigation, lobbying and internal investigations. Jim regularly represents clients in connection with the acquisition and sale of businesses, particularly in the health care field.

In addition to his statewide health care practice, Jim also regularly represents local governments and economic development organizations. He currently serves as county attorney for Granville County, town attorney for the Town of Butner and General Counsel for Granville Health System, the South Granville Water and Sewer Authority, the Kerr-Tar Regional Council of Governments, and the Kerr-Tar Regional Economic Development Corporation, and other area for-profit, governmental, and non-profit entities. Jim will maintain an office at 111 Gilliam Street in Oxford to best serve his client’s needs, along with an office in Raleigh where Smith Anderson is headquartered.

“We are excited to welcome Jim to Smith Anderson. His deep experience in health care, corporate and government law will strengthen a number of our practice groups and help us better serve our existing clients,” said Byron Kirkland, managing partner of Smith Anderson.

Jim earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his B.A. from the Virginia Military Institute. He clerked for the Honorable Karen Johnson Williams of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals following law school.

“I enjoy situations where clients’ legal needs and policy goals intersect, so I can help the client prepare for the future, rather than acting reactively once a situation is beyond their control. I am excited to join Smith Anderson and be able to provide clients with a deep bench of experienced lawyers that will help them meet their legal and business goals,” Jim said.
