Alicia Gilleskie Speaks at CAPLAW National Training Conference

Raleigh (June 22, 2009) – Alicia Gilleskie, Smith Anderson associate, is speaking at the 2009 Community Action Program Legal Services, Inc. (CAPLAW) National Training Conference in Seattle, Washington on Wednesday, June 24. The conference attracts a nationwide audience, with over 500 attendees that include Community Action Agency (CAA) executives, attorneys and representatives from federal and state government agencies.

Ms. Gilleskie’s presentation provides an overview of Privacy laws and standards that apply to the collection, use and maintenance of clients’ and employees’ personal information. The discussion includes an overview of Section 5 of the FTC Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), state data breach notification laws and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Organizations will learn what restrictions apply to their use and disclosure of personal information, and what they should be doing to protection personal information.

Ms. Gilleskie practices primarily in the areas of technology law and information privacy and security. She advises clients in the software, information technology, health care, data aggregation and Internet and e-commerce industries. During her tenure as in-house counsel prior to joining Smith Anderson, she developed an extensive knowledge of corporate processes and operations, and is adept at transforming legal concepts into practical, hands-on advice for clients.
