This award honors those who have provided extraordinary service to their communities, demonstrating leadership through global or local service to mobilize others in the fight against cancer. The Shingleton Award is the institute's highest volunteer honor and named for William W. Shingleton, MD, the “founding father” and emeritus director of the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, now known as Duke Cancer Institute. Recipients have exhibited exemplary service leadership in ways that benefit society and bring credit to DCI.
