Overview

Victoria “Tory” Hartmann is a corporate attorney who advises private and public biotechnology and technology companies in various aspects of corporate law, with an emphasis on licensing transactions. Her biotechnology sector experience includes, among other things, drafting and negotiating collaboration agreements, commercialization agreements, research services agreements, co-promotion agreements and manufacturing and supply agreements. Her technology sector experience includes, among other things, drafting and negotiating software-as-a-service agreements, software licenses, reseller and distributor agreements and terms of services. She also advises her clients in various other strategic transactions such as financings, public offerings and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Smith Anderson, Tory practiced corporate law in the Boston office of a large, international law firm, where she drafted and negotiated license agreements and other commercial contracts and advised clients on general corporate and intellectual property matters. Prior to attending law school, Tory was a policy associate with Local Initiatives Support Corporation in Washington, DC, where she worked to establish and strengthen private-public partnerships to advance access to safe housing, healthy food and quality schools in underserved rural and urban communities nationwide. She also taught English as a second language in three French middle schools as part of a program offered through the French Ministry of Education.
