Kim Swintosky Honored as a 2008 ’40 Under 40’ Award Recipient

Smith Anderson lawyer, Kim Swintosky, was an honoree at this year’s ’40 Under 40’ awards gala, held on Friday, May 2, 2008.

Each year, the Triangle Business Journal honors forty of the Triangle-area’s most influential and highly accomplished young leaders based on a rigorous evaluation process that includes recommendations from the business community.

Ms. Swintosky demonstrates leadership both in her career and in the community. An experienced corporate and tax lawyer, she represents diverse clients on complex corporate and tax transactions. She works with individuals to help them achieve their estate planning objectives and represents privately-owned businesses on tax and business matters arising in connection with their formation, operation, combination and dissolution. Ms. Swintosky's business practice includes providing business and tax advice related to choice of entity matters, succession planning, mergers and acquisitions and buy-sell arrangements. She also advises tax-exempt entities, including public charities and private foundations on corporate law and tax matters. Ms. Swintosky is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and worked in the tax division of Arthur Andersen, LLP before attending law school. Her firm leadership includes serving as a mentor to more junior lawyers.

Her extensive community activities include serving as a member or the North Carolina Ballet’s Board of Directors; providing pro bono legal services through the Legal Aid of North Carolina, Volunteer Lawyers Program; and significant participation with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wake County. Ms. Swintosky has three young children and her husband, David, received ’40 Under 40’ recognition in 2007.
