The North State Journal

The North State Journal (NSJ) has named Smith Anderson attorney Dana Simpson as among North Carolina’s Top 10 Lobbyists in 2022. NSJ has rated Dana one of the most influential lobbyists in North Carolina every year since it first began publishing rankings in 2020. In its latest ranking, NSJ described Dana as a "perennial top-lobbyist."

NSJ staff surveyed legislators, staffers, reporters and business leaders and parsed data on clients represented by North Carolina’s more than 750 registered lobbyists in 2022 to create the list. NSJ considered each of the candidates who received votes to determine the top lobbyists in North Carolina, with just over one percent of all of North Carolina’s registered lobbyists making the NSJ’s Top 10 list.

Dana leads Smith Anderson’s Regulatory team and co-chairs its Government Relations practice. Prior to law school, Dana worked as a policy advisor to the N.C. Speaker of the House. He regularly represents clients before the North Carolina General Assembly and with state agencies where his work includes legislative and regulatory advocacy, strategic issues management, negotiating economic development incentives and assisting clients in complying with state ethics and campaign finance laws.
