Smith Anderson Chairman John L. Jernigan has been named a Triangle Business Journal 2017 CEO of the Year. Based solely on responses from peers, this honor recognizes John as a member of a standout class of CEOs who help drive success in the Triangle and make it an exceptional place to work, learn and live.
Describing the list as a veritable “Who’s Who” of local executives, the Triangle Business Journal notes that 2017’s roundup features executives from a variety of industries, including law, construction and development, entertainment, transportation, education and life sciences.
Responses for the “CEO of the Year” awards were collected from CEOs and other top executives, including winners from the past two CEO awards. Now in its third year, the “CEO of the Year” awards strives to recognize top officers widely regarded as leaders in the Triangle.

Prior to serving as Chairman of Smith Anderson, John served as the firm’s Managing Partner. Through his corporate law practice, John represents businesses in complex commercial transactions and has over 35 years of experience structuring, negotiating and closing mergers and acquisitions involving public companies and large privately-owned companies. John has advised public company boards on special committees, audit committees and corporate governance, and regularly advises companies and their boards and officers on general corporate and business law matters.
