Sharita Whitaker Featured as “Tar Heel of the Week”

Raleigh, N.C. – Sharita Whitaker has been named “Tar Heel of the Week” in The News & Observer’s January 3, 2016 edition.

The article titled “Sharita Whitaker Has Forged a Legal Career for Other Minorities to Follow,” describes the circumstances and obstacles Sharita overcame on her journey to becoming a real estate lawyer, including being the first person in her extended family to attend college.

Sharita’s ongoing commitment to helping other minorities succeed in the legal profession is highlighted throughout the article. She currently serves as Chair of the Minorities in the Profession Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association and was a co-chair of ¡Adelante! Moving Forward Program, which aids young attorneys transitioning from school to career. In the public service realm, Sharita is a volunteer with Legal Aid of North Carolina’s Lawyer on the Line program, which offers free legal advice to low-income residents.
