Christopher Smith Presents on the Life Cycle of a Company’s Trade Secrets

Raleigh, N.C.Christopher Smith presented “The Life Cycle of a Company’s Trade Secrets” at the Defense Research Institute’s (DRI) Intellectual Property Litigation Seminar, May 7-8, 2015, in Chicago. The Seminar focused on timely, need-to-know topics for IP practitioners and litigators. Chris’ presentation addressed the three main stages every company faces in managing a trade secret: (1) defining and establishing the existence of a trade secret; (2) the building blocks for protecting it; and (3) initiating and responding to claims of misappropriation.

Since 2013, Chris has served as Chair of DRI’s Trade Secrets Group. As a partner at Smith Anderson, Chris is the Business Litigation Team Leader and serves as a member of the Firm’s management committee. He is a trial and appellate lawyer who manages large multi-party and multi-jurisdiction litigation projects and mission-critical projects for clients. Chris currently also serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce.  He works with business groups and government officials on initiatives to improve the quality and efficiency of the administration of justice in North Carolina and on policy and legislative matters affecting the legal climate for businesses in the state.
