Overview

Alec Roberson brings a thoughtful, client-centered approach to Smith Anderson’s Private Client, Tax and Trusts & Estates practices. He focuses his practice on analyzing and navigating pre- and post-mortem estate and trust matters that affect a wide array of the Firm’s clients with confidence.

Alec’s practice covers a wide range of trusts and estate matters, including the creation, review and modification of wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, durable powers of attorney, and other key estate planning instruments, estate tax planning, and assisting with estate and trust administration. Prior to joining Smith Anderson, Alec worked both within a law firm setting and in compliance for a national bank, guiding clients through complex estate and trust-related matters as well as analyzing a variety of regulatory issues and developments. Alec also has experience in business and real estate law, having assisted in preparing commercial real estate contracts, trust-related property transfers and asset purchase agreements.

Outside of his legal practice, Alec enjoys surfing, snowboarding, playing and watching ice hockey, and writing about the intersection of business, law and professional hockey. He has contributed to several online publications and co-founded a blog exploring these topics.

  • Assist with post-mortem estate and trust administration, including probate and non-probate asset transfer, trust funding, and preparing estate accountings.
  • Assist with business succession planning through drafting shareholder agreements, operating agreements, and buy-sell agreements.
  • Review existing trusts and prepare trust decanting, modification, and termination documents to accommodate changes in circumstances.
