Smith Anderson, the largest law firm in North Carolina’s Triangle region, is adding its name to the Raleigh skyline with new signage atop 150 Fayetteville, the 30-story high-rise formerly known as the Wells Fargo Capitol Center. The firm’s name and logo will crown the tower along both Salisbury and Hargett Streets, visible from the west and south-facing sides.

“As one of the largest private employers in downtown Raleigh, we are excited to have our name join the Raleigh skyline as a symbol of our enduring connection to the city,” said Managing Partner Byron Kirkland. “The new signage represents more than visibility. It reflects our long-standing presence in the heart of downtown with Fayetteville Street as our foundation, our confidence in Raleigh’s growth and our continued investment in its future.

A Broader Investment in Downtown Raleigh

The top-of-building signage is part of a multi-pronged investment by Smith Anderson, reaffirming its long-term commitment to downtown Raleigh’s economic growth:

  • In late 2024, the firm extended its lease for another 13 years with Highwoods Properties.
  • The firm is currently undergoing significant expansion and renovation to accommodate its growing team of nearly 300 people, occupying the top seven floors of the tower, including the two top floors formerly held by City Club Raleigh. Renovations will be completed in January 2026.
  • Smith Anderson’s continued growth is rooted in downtown Raleigh, and the firm is proud to invest alongside the city and contribute to the community it has called home since its founding.

Renovations Enhance Client and Workplace Experience

Smith Anderson’s downtown Raleigh office is expanding by 20,000 square feet, bringing its total footprint to 112,000 square feet. The expanded and modernized space is designed to foster a culture of collaboration, flexibility and well-being.

New features include wellness rooms, hoteling offices, huddle rooms and a boutique-style café. A standout element of the renovation is the suite of client meeting and event spaces, including a signature event area that accommodates up to 150 people, all combining state-of-the-art capabilities with premier, panoramic views of downtown Raleigh from high above the city, framed by multi-story windows. The overall design reflects the firm’s commitment to creating an environment that strengthens connection, supports productivity and elevates the experience for both our people and our clients.
