LMG Life Sciences Once Again Recognizes Smith Anderson in National Rankings

LMG Life Sciences

LMG Life Sciences, the only ranking directory to identify leading law firms and lawyers in various practice areas of the life sciences industry, recognized Smith Anderson in the Licensing & Collaboration category in its 2023 rankings for the second year in a row. Smith Anderson is the only law firm headquartered in North Carolina to receive this national recognition.

Additionally, John Therien and Jason Brege were individually recognized as Life Sciences Stars and acknowledged for their specific legal acumen within the life sciences sector: John Therien for Corporate, Licensing & Collaboration and Venture Capital and Jason Brege for Licensing & Collaboration. John and Jason co-lead Smith Anderson’s globally-ranked AgTech and FoodTech industry group and Jason also leads the firm’s industry-agnostic Technology Transactions and Intellectual Property team.

Smith Anderson’s Life Sciences team focuses on solutions for innovative life sciences companies throughout the world at all stages—from startups to established public companies, pre-clinical through commercialization. Our Licensing & Collaboration experience ranges across a variety of technologies and indications, with particular emphasis on transactions involving development and commercialization of biotechnology innovations such as gene editing, gene therapy and cell therapy. Partnering deals in which our firm has been involved have received awards such as the Licensing Executives Society Life Sciences “Deals of Distinction” award and multiple “Impact Deal of the Year” awards by LMG Life Sciences. Each year, our team counsels clients in dozens of collaboration and licensing transactions worth billions of dollars in cumulative deal value, alongside a significant volume of industry-specific M&A transactions.  Our lawyers leverage this deep industry experience and knowledge to provide our clients with effective, timely solutions to meet their business objectives.

LMG Life Sciences identifies firms handling significant life sciences work in four main practice areas: Regulatory; Intellectual Property; Financial & Corporate; and Non-IP Litigation and Enforcement, with sub-categories within each practice area. Law firm and individual practitioner recommendations by LMG Life Sciences are based on three factors: case evidence submitted by the participating firms and peer feedback via “Practitioner Survey,” phone and face-to-face interviews with practitioners and client feedback.

LMG Life Sciences is the definitive guide to leading law firms and lawyers specialized in the life sciences industry. The results published include firm-level rankings for each of the legal practice areas covered by LMG’s research, as well as the new class of LMG Life Sciences Stars, or top partners in the field. LMG’s aim is to better capture firms handling significant life sciences work at all levels of the market.
