Smith Anderson Attorney Honored With Veterans of Influence Award

The Triangle Business Journal has named Smith Anderson attorney and retired U.S. Army Colonel David Hayden a Veterans of Influence Award winner for his success in the Triangle business community. The awards recognize military veterans who have made significant achievements in their careers in the past year, have strong records of innovation or outstanding performance in their work and are actively involved in the Triangle community.

David is an experienced business attorney with a focus in government contracting and corporate investigations who regularly advises companies, and their directors and officers, on corporate governance matters and other general corporate and business matters. In the past year, not only has David obtained favorable results for his clients advising companies on a broad range of federal contracting issues, David was also elected as Chairman of the Board of Directors for North Carolina’s new Veterans Life Center expected to open in the spring of 2020, and was appointed by Governor Cooper to serve as Commissioner of the North Carolina Military Affairs Commission. In addition, David is a current board member of the North Carolina Heroes Fund, in which he advocated for grants to help raise over $50,000 to benefit 28 veterans and their families, a Past Chair and current board member of the North Carolina Defense Business Association, and an advisory member of the North Carolina State Bar’s Legal Assistance to Military Personnel Committee.

Nominees were chosen from a pool that included veterans of the U.S. Military – Navy, Marines, Army, Air Force, or Coast Guard, including reservists. Fellow honorees include Keith McCarthy, RTI International; Karl Murphy, Get Spiffy; Victoria Orto, Duke Regional Hospital and Joel Ray, UNC Rex Healthcare.
