Partner Jason Brege Honored as a Triangle Business Journal 40 Under 40 Leadership Awards Winner
Smith Anderson Partner Jason Brege was selected as a recipient of the Triangle Business Journal’s annual 40 Under 40 leadership awards. Six judges deliberated over hundreds of applications, selecting 40 outstanding professionals under the age of 40 to be honored for exemplary contributions to their organizations and the community.
“These winners reflect the entrepreneurial spirit and the economic prowess of the diverse community in which we live and work,” said TBJ publisher Jason Christie. “The Triangle is a better place because of the efforts of these honorees. I’m proud to know that the future of this area is in such good hands.”
A co-leader of Smith Anderson’s AgTech practice group, Jason brings global-scale deal experience to companies across the country and internationally. Since joining Smith Anderson in 2007, he has advised numerous companies and facilitated billions of dollars’ worth of technology transactions across various industries, with particular emphasis in the pharmaceutical, AgTech, software and technology industries. As part of the AgTech team in particular, Jason leverages his and the rest of the team’s wealth of experience and backgrounds in biology, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics to work with companies trying to feed the world and address the looming global food crisis through innovative technology.
He has a wide breadth of experience in navigating transactions for his clients, including a $1.6 billion license and collaboration deal he executed for Precision BioSciences in 2016. This groundbreaking transaction was awarded the 2016 Life Science Sector Deals of Distinction™ award by the Licensing Executives Society.
Outside of his legal practice, Jason serves as Board Chairman of Justice Matters, Inc., a local non-profit that provides legal services to survivors of human trafficking and other traumas. The Justice Matters team works with trauma survivors from an innovative “trauma-informed” perspective on providing legal services, ensuring they interact with their clients in a sensitive manner to avoid re-traumatization. These legal services have proven critical to unlock the doors for survivors to fully recover physically, psychologically and emotionally, becoming equipped to again become flourishing members of our society.
Jason has served several terms as Board Chairman of Justice Matters, and he devotes nearly 200 hours per year to the organization. Since Jason began his work with the non-profit, Justice Matters has more than doubled in budget, team growth and clients served.
“I am honored to have been selected as a recipient of this year’s 40 Under 40 awards,” said Jason. “The Triangle is a great place to work with innovative companies who are busy developing the transformative technologies that will better our future. But, perhaps more importantly, the Triangle is an amazing community filled with people who care about others, and I am excited to continue serving within the community for years to come.”
Jason and the other winners will be honored at an awards luncheon June 28 at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, and a special section about the award recipients will be featured in the June 29 edition of the Triangle Business Journal.
