Agricultural Biotech Co. Selects Research Triangle for North American Headquarters

Smith Anderson client and Spain-based biotechnology company PlantResponse has chosen the Research Triangle region as its new North American headquarters.

PlantResponse is a leader in the agricultural biotechnology market, and produces products that help plants to overcome adverse conditions and botanical stress that compromise the plants’ productivity. The company is in the forefront of discovering and developing innovative solutions for crop management on a global scale.

Smith Anderson’s AgTech group serves as United States legal counsel to PlantResponse and assisted with the establishment of the company’s new North American headquarters.

The Triangle Business Journal published the article “Spanish biotech chooses Triangle for North American HQ.” According to the article, PlantResponse chose the Triangle because it supplies access to commercial talent and a strong infrastructure, including legal and financial services. PlantResponse CEO Tom Snipes is quoted in the article as saying that PlantResponse raised roughly the equivalent of $6 million in its Series A round and is currently looking to raise another $20 million to $30 million for research and development as well as commercialization efforts.
