Smith Anderson is pleased to announce that Christine Walchuk, a well-regarded life sciences licensing and technology transactions attorney, has joined the firm as a Partner in the Intellectual Property (IP) and Technology Transactions practice groups. Christine joins the firm from a global law firm in Northern Virginia and has spent over a decade with some of the foremost life sciences law firms in the world – leading high-profile, cross-disciplinary deal teams on high-complexity collaboration deals in the life sciences and technology sectors, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, vaccines and agricultural technology.
Adding Christine’s strengths and capabilities to Smith Anderson’s sophisticated and globally known IP and Technology Transactions practice, the firm reinforces its position as the life sciences and AgTech technology transactions leader located in the RTP region. Smith Anderson’s team has led award-winning technology transactions, including the 2016 Life Science sector Deals of Distinction™ award by the Licensing Executives Society, and the team’s work in the agricultural technology industry has earned honors as one of the top nine agribusiness practices in the world for two years running by Chambers Global. Additionally, in 2020 Smith Anderson advised biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in numerous collaboration agreements each in excess of $500 million in value, including a leading genome editing company’s gene therapy collaboration with a deal value up to $2.7 billion.
Christine has represented all manner of life science and technology companies on billions of dollars’ worth of transactions, including multiple billion-dollar-plus collaborations throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia and emerging markets, and she has additionally advised on public offerings, spin-outs, joint ventures and structured mergers and acquisitions. Christine’s background in biology meshes well with the existing team’s specialized backgrounds in scientific and technology-based subject matters, including biochemical sciences, biology, engineering, physics, mathematics and environmental science, ensuring experienced, science-savvy counsel for clients in their most technologically complex collaborations.
