Smith Anderson Partner, Benji Jones, will receive the Editor’s Choice award at WRAL’s fifth annual TechWire Awards program on April 25 as a result of her efforts to secure the passage of the NC PACES act.
The NC PACES Act (North Carolina’s intrastate crowdfunding bill), which was recently signed into law, intends to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship for North Carolina businesses, allowing them to raise up to $2 million in capital annually from North Carolina-based investors.
Benji played an integral role in developing and carrying the innovative crowdfunding act through adoption with an emphasis on maintaining a flexible approach, including small and off-line offerings, that makes the legislation unique from that of other states. NC PACES, scheduled to go into full effect on April 20, is a key opportunity available only in the Tar Heel State.
Benji’s practice focuses on providing advice to public and private companies on a broad spectrum of legal issues affecting businesses, including public equity and debt offerings, domestic private placements, crowdfunding, and other non-traditional private offerings and repurchase programs.
