Sammy Thompson and Marks Arnold Receive Boys & Girls Clubs National Service to Youth Award

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Boys & Girls Clubs in Wake County recently recognized Sammy Thompson and Marks Arnold with the National Service to Youth Award for their relentless dedication to the organization. The two Smith Anderson partners combined have invested more than 55 years of service to being engaged in the club, as well as leading and serving various committees and fundraising efforts.

The longest serving member of the Boys & Girls Clubs Board of Directors, Sammy Thompson practices in the Firm’s Medical Malpractice Defense group and was presented with the National Service to Youth Award for 35 years of dedicated service. He has served in some capacity on all committees, as well as an officer from 1980-1983. In 1983, he served as Chair of the Boys & Girls Clubs Board of Directors and since then has continued to give freely of his time and support to both organizational and capital projects.

Marks Arnold, who practices within the Firm’s Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions group, received the National Service to Youth Award for 20 years of dedicated service. Marks has given his talents, leadership and contributions to the Boys & Girls Clubs as a Board Member since 1992. He also served as an officer from 1995-1999 and as Chair of the Board of Directors during 1998-1999.

Since its opening in April 1967, the Boys & Girls Clubs has grown to serve more than 4,500 deserving children and teens annually through seven year-round Clubs and a summer day camp.
