Scott Miskimon Gives Keynote Address to the North Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society; James K. Dorsett Completes Service as Society President

Raleigh, NC (October 28, 2011) - On Thursday, October 27, 2011, Smith Anderson partner Scott Miskimon gave the keynote address “North Carolina Lawyers and the American Revolution” to the North Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society at its 20th Annual Dinner Meeting. The presentation included rare historical evidence shedding new light on how the Revolution was fought in North Carolina and the military experiences of the men who later became some of the state’s most notable lawyers, such as William Richardson Davie and John Stokes. Mr. Miskimon discussed how their wartime activities during the Revolution shaped their careers as lawyers, the law of North Carolina, and the ratification of the United States Constitution.

The North Carolina Supreme Court Historical Society is dedicated to collecting, preserving and promoting the state’s rich legal history, and in particular the history of its highest court. Smith Anderson was a sponsor of the Annual Dinner, at which Smith Anderson partner James K. Dorsett presided and concluded his term as President of the Society. In 2012, both Mr. Dorsett and Mr. Miskimon will serve on the Society’s Board of Trustees.
