The NC General Assembly Appoints Andrew P. Atkins to the Rules Review Commission

As part of the North Carolina General Assembly’s 2017 Appointment Bill, House Speaker Tim Moore has appointed Smith Anderson attorney Andrew P. Atkins to the Rules Review Commission (RRC). Andrew’s two-year term commences on July 1, 2017 and will conclude on June 30, 2019.

The RRC is an executive agency that reviews and approves rules adopted by state agencies. Appointed by the General Assembly, the 10 RRC commissioners hold monthly meetings. The RRC reviews and evaluates rules on four standards including authority, clarity, necessity and compliance.

Andrew joined Smith Anderson in 2013 and is a member of the firm’s Construction and Commercial Litigation practice groups. His past experience includes serving as a Judicial Law Clerk to Justice Mark Martin, Supreme Court of North Carolina. He also practiced at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, United States Department of the Treasury (OCC), where he often worked with national banks on regulatory matters affecting their business operations and pursued enforcement actions on behalf of the OCC.
