H. Martin Lancaster Authors Article in News & Observer

RALEIGH, N.C. – H. Martin Lancaster, Lawyer Of Counsel at Smith Anderson, recently authored an editorial article titled “Building Bioscience” in the News & Observer. The article describes how the strong local biopharmaceutical sector will push North Carolina’s economy in the right direction for growth. Mr. Lancaster states, “Bioscience has major ripple effects in the employment market, stimulating new positions in related industries, like accounting and construction. Each new bioscience job is estimated to create over five new jobs in other industries.” The article also focuses on the significance of American policymakers enacting the next round of bioscience reforms needed to keep our country competitive in this industry. If this legislature is not given proper attention, we will lose our position as the world leader in medical innovation. Additionally, the importance of improving math and science education in our public schools is described within the article.

Martin Lancaster, who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1995, is a former president of the N.C. Community College System and former chair of the National Council of State Directors of Community Colleges.
