Mitch Armbruster practices in the areas of commercial and administrative litigation, with significant experience in appellate litigation. He has handled a wide variety of business disputes, administrative agency disputes, regulatory enforcement proceedings, public records disputes, securities litigation and arbitration proceedings, and antitrust matters. He has tried cases in jury and non-jury settings and conducted hearings before various state administrative boards and the North Carolina Office of Administrative Hearings.

Mitch has also handled pro bono appeals for the state Guardian Ad Litem program. Before joining Smith Anderson, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable David B. Sentelle, United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, Washington, D.C.

  • Successfully defended large agricultural corporation against alleged violations of state pesticide laws and regulations
  • Litigated and reached successful settlement of a multi-million-dollar claim against an investment manager for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty claims
  • Obtained summary judgment for defendant on $20 million claim for breach of contract for failure to properly adjudicate healthcare billing claims
  • Represented a private security company in enforcement of arbitration agreements between the company and its independent contractors
  • Successfully defended multiple personal injury lawsuits arising from chemical release and industrial accident in eastern North Carolina for a global developer and manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, biopharmaceuticals and agrochemicals
  • Obtained summary judgment in class action against national and international airlines asserting price-fixing in the setting of commissions
  • Represented numerous clients in appeals before the Fourth Circuit, North Carolina Supreme Court, and North Carolina Court of Appeals
  • Successfully defended brokerage firms and individual brokers in securities arbitrations against claims of unsuitability and fraud
  • Represented healthcare claims processor in a bid protest regarding award of government healthcare claims processing contract
